Bob Hedges Undergraduate Student Award

Since 2003, the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) has offered an annual award in honor of Bob Hedges, an ARIA past president and long time active member of our organization. This tradition will continue for 2018. The Hedges Award is made to an undergraduate student studying risk management and insurance, or a related field, and is intended to cover expenses for that student to attend the ARIA Annual Meeting. This yearís meeting will be held August 5-8, 2018 in Chicago, IL.

The Hedges Award contributes to the basic costs of travel, lodging, food and registration fees for the meeting, and is valued at approximately US $1,000. The selected student will be formally recognized at the awards ceremony at the meeting. The ARIA Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for the winning student to attend academic sessions on current topics in risk management and insurance, and to meet and interact with professors and practitioners involved in the field. This opportunity is especially valuable for any student considering obtaining an advanced degree in risk management and insurance. Proposal deadline is April 1, 2018. Nominated students should be full-time undergraduates at the time of nomination. The winning student will be selected by an awards committee appointed by the ARIA President.

Proposals should include the following:

  1. A brief statement from the student indicating an interest in attending the ARIA Annual Meeting, describing what he/she hopes to get out of the meeting and describing his/her career plans.
  2. The studentís current resume.
  3. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the studentís college or university supporting the studentís application.

All proposals should be submitted by email to:
